Allen's brother had died of pancreatic cancer, his mother had died of ovarian cancer, his father and his grandfather died of colon cancer, and then Allen himself was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in May of 2011. The doctors wanted him to do a lot of hormone treatment and radiation, surgery was not an option. He looked at all the side effects he would experience with the treatment. and he knew some people in his bible study that had stalled their cancer through a holistic diet. For example, one of the ladies was told that she had roughly 6 months to live… that was eleven years ago. This and the fact Allen grew up on a farm where they only ate food they grew, where factors in Allen decision to go on a holistic diet and that has so far left him with a good quality of life. Allen suggests that people should “Watch what you eat, pay attention to the fat. Vitamin D is one of the things that you need most for immune system.” Allen continues, saying that cancer “Changes your attitude. Someday is here. You are not going to live forever. It has made me think more about my mortality and prioritize things in life.”
